NAME: Kathleen Burley

POSITION FOR WHICH YOU ARE A CANDIDATE:

Community Unit School Dist. 300

1.  Why are you seeking this position?

I am seeking re-election to continue the work I have done on behalf of the D300 community. I enjoy visiting many of the schools and their activities to see firsthand how decisions our district makes affect our students. I am currently the legislative liaison for the D300 school board and I monitor any legislation that may impact our decision as well as maintain a working relationship with legislators both state and federal. I care about our students and our community as a whole and want to make sure our children get the best education. They deserve it! My passion for adequate and equitable education for ALL children is my driving force.

2.  What experience and background do you have which qualifies you for this position?

I’ve been a dedicated volunteer within D300 for close to 20 years both in schools as well as on district committees. I have three children attend schools in D300 with one currently enrolled. I am passionate about education both with my children and others and because of that, I have been involved in leadership positions with numerous organizations. Currently, I am a Director with our Kishwaukee Division of the Illinois Association of School Boards (IASB), our board Delegate for IASB, and a Master Board Member for IASB.

3.  What will be your greatest challenge if elected?

My greatest challenge if elected will be to continue to work with our school board and the D300 administration to navigate how we can best serve our students and community with the volatility of funding both at the state and federal levels. We continue to do many great things with the funds that are available to us, however, those levels change frequently and so we must continue to watch closely and plan conservatively.
