NAME: Annette M. Miller

POSITION FOR WHICH YOU ARE A CANDIDATE:

Elgin Township Supervisor

1.  Why are you seeking this position?

I am running for re-election to continue providing quality services to the residents of Elgin Township for less than 1% of their tax bills.  My office  administers the General Assistance and Emergency Assistance programs to the needy residents of our community, we also fund senior, youth and social service agencies.  I want to keep that for our residents.

2.  What experience and background do you have which qualifies you for this position?

Experience.  I have worked at the Elgin Township for the last 30 years, starting as a caseworker, then as an Administrative Assistant and then appointed Supervisor in 2005.  We are mandated by the State of Illinois to perform 3 functions:  provide General Assistance, maintain roads, and assess property.  We have strict guidelines which dictate what we can and cannot implement in Township government.  One must know what Townships can provide and what they cannot.

3.  What will be your greatest challenge if elected?

The biggest challenge is to maintain a balanced budget (which we have have done the past 11 years) while keeping quality services.  With the state budget crisis, funding and services are falling to the local governments. It is imperative that these services are not cut for our residents that desperately need them.

Release for publication? YES
