NAME: Candace McCreary
POSITION FOR WHICH YOU ARE A CANDIDATE:
Elgin Community College Dist. 509
1. Why are you seeking this position?
I am running for the Elgin Community College Board of Trustees because of concerns I have from reading their financial reports especially the annual audit reports concerning significant deficiency of unapproved timesheets involving Federal Work Study Program students. Their auditor used the term significant deficiency in the annual audit report. Lacking proper internal financial controls and policies is a repetitive problem from the previous year. ECC is a state public institution and the Trustees are to have “due diligence” in their fiduciary responsibilities. It is the Boards fiduciary responsibility to assure the proper financial and payroll review process exists and making sure the president is properly supervising his executive staff
2. What experience and background do you have which qualifies you for this position?
My community service has included serving on the Plan Commission and Fire/Police Commission in Streamwood as well as the Streamwood Village Board of Trustees. I am currently the President of the Poplar Creek Public Library District and have served as a Trustee for 8 years. I am a member of the Illinois Library Association and the Illinois Education Association. I currently teach Sociology and Statistics courses at the College of DuPage. I have also instructed at Harper College, Elgin Community College and Northwestern Business College with over 20 years.
3. What will be your greatest challenge if elected?
Learning the Illinois statutes, ECC’s policies, bylaws, etc. prior to being sworn in, so I can hit the ground running.
