NAME: Nancy A. Zettler

POSITION FOR WHICH YOU ARE A CANDIDATE:

Illinois State Representative District 66

1.  Why are you seeking this position?

I am running because I want to go to Springfield to represent the people of District 66 and not billionaires and outside corporate interests. I do not have a personal agenda to advance my own career and I am not representing the agenda of any special interest.
Unlike my opponent who’s campaign has been financed by billionaires and PACs to the tune of half a million dollars to date, I am being supported by working men and women in this district; teachers, men and women who build our roads homes and businesses, caregivers and local business owners. I have strong, bipartisan support because I am willing to go to Springfield and reach across the aisle and find those people who, like us, are tired of the status quo. If you send me to Springfield I will go there beholden only to you, the people of District 66.

2.  What experience and background do you have which qualifies you for this position?

I have a strong history of fighting for us against the powers that be in Springfield and corporations who think that it is their right to demand that we hand over our hard-earned tax dollars to them as a fee so that they will stay in Illinois. I helped lead the fight against Governor Quinn and Speaker Madigan when they wanted to continue to hand over tens of millions of our property tax dollars to a large corporation in the area that was hinting about leaving the state. Our group lobbied both sides of the aisle and found people on both sides willing to stand with us against the tax grab. Because of that partnership we were able to get a seat at the table and the district negotiated a deal that over the next 15 years will save us over 30 million dollars in property taxes.

3.  What will be your greatest challenge if elected?

As we are all know, our state’s finances are a disaster. We need to make some serious cuts without cutting important programs such as services for seniors, breast cancer screenings, and child care. And we need to find new sources of revenue without raising taxes on seniors and the working and middle class families that already bear the biggest brunt of the tax burden today.
We also need to cut programs, promoted by both sides of the aisle, that allow the state and many of our local governments to take our taxes and hand them over to perfectly profitable corporations without our permission and, most of time, without our knowledge. Each year these programs cost us hundreds of millions, if not billions of dollars.
