NAME: Douglas J Scheflow

POSITION FOR WHICH YOU ARE A CANDIDATE:

Kane County Board District 22

1.  Why are you seeking this position?

My goal in seeking this office is to represent the interests of the hardworking families, seniors and taxpayers in District 22 on the West side of Elgin and Elgin Township. The West side of Elgin has been my home for all of my life except for my college years. I have served as the county board representative in this District for almost four years and I have spoken out for smaller government and lower expenditures during that time. Under the leadership of Kane County Board Chairman Chris Lauzen we have keep the real estate tax levy frozen for those four years and if re-elected I will continue to work for lower property taxes and speak for taxpayers.

2.  What experience and background do you have which qualifies you for this position?

As a small businessman, homeowner, taxpayer, and a practicing attorney in Kane County, I have broad experience with local government. My law practice has put me in contact with many areas of county government in Kane, Cook and other counties over 30 years. As a small businessman, home owner and taxpayer I am sensitive to the expanding demands on the hardworking men and women in the Elgin area by many local governments and I will work to reduce and redirect these demands. As a graduate of Larkin High School, along with my four children, I understand the interests of the residents of District 22. My wife Lena and I understand the needs and concerns of the senior citizens of the Elgin area as we address the needs of our elderly parents.

3.  What will be your greatest challenge if elected?

The greatest challenge will be to balance the demand of our many well run county departments to provide excellent services to residents, which often seek increases in government spending, with the needs of hardworking families and seniors to balance their budgets, provide for their families and support their interests.
