NAME: Allen Skillicorn

POSITION FOR WHICH YOU ARE A CANDIDATE:

State Representative, 66th District representing areas in McHenry and Kane Counties, including Algonquin, Carpentersville, Crystal Lake, East Dundee, Elgin, Huntley, Lake in the Hills, Lakewood, Sleepy Hollow, and West Dundee.

  1. Why are seeking this position?

Although we have a Republican governor dedicated to turning our state around, there’s a veto-proof Democrat majority in the house unwilling to move one iota for meaningful reform. The only way to restore compromise and bi-partisan leadership is restore the two-party system in Illinois. The challenge to righting injustices and advancing the interests of the 66th District, requires reaching beyond it’s gerrymandered boundaries. We need to restore Republican leadershi p in the ailing suburbs suffering from Chicago Democratic rule. The only path to restoring true economic opportunity in Illinois requires peeling back the claws of control from Speaker Madigan. He’s amassed vast wealth profiting from Illinois’s convoluted property tax system. For Insiders like Madigan, the system works great. I’m running for the rest of us.

  1. What experience and background do you have which qualifies you for this position?

I was elected Trustee of the Village of East Dundee in 2011 and have pushed a variety of reforms. First, Iworked with the board to freeze the village property tax levy. This freeze has remained in place for the last five years. Second, I’ve promoted greater accountability. Iworked to get important records and financial information posted regularly on East Dundee’s village website. Third, by working with the business community East Dundee’s downtown has attracted $14 million in private/public investment. East Dundee was also the first municipality in the state to pass Governor Bruce Rauner’s Turnaround Agenda.

I have also served on the board of the Northern Kane County Chamber of Commerce and am currently serving as Vice Chairman of the Kane County Republican Party.

  1. What will be your greatest challenge if elected?

We need to restore the two-party system in the Illinois legislature. Republican super-minorities in the House and Senate have empowered Chicago Democrat Speaker Madigan to hold the state budget hostage. Behind closed doors he silently refuses to negotiate with the Governor. Madigan could ignore Rauner’s reforms and pass his own state budget tomorrow, yet he chooses not to do so. He is the architect of the Illinois Budget Crisis and the single largest road-block to an effective General Assembly.
